Products like the intelliRock system from Engius, LLC, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, are helping contractors deliver more durable, “greener” finished products to their clients in less time and at a lower cost than was previously possible using dated, sometimes century old construction techniques.
Built around small, intelligent sensors that are placed in key locations of the concrete placement prior to pour, the intelliRock sensors monitor and log the temperature profile of the curing concrete and report a concrete “maturity index” based on ASTM C 1074. The maturity index given by intelliRock along with a cylinder-based strength calibration for the mix design, provides accurate concrete strength readings in real time.
IntelliRock provides actual in-place strength versus time information, contractors can use intelliRock to optimize mix designs and use lower-cost mix designs with lower cement contents. When contractors use the mix design that is actually needed for the project instead of overdesigned mixes, the impact on concrete quality, improvements in sustainability and savings on material are substantial!
