Buyer's Guide 2011
November 2011BARRIER SYSTEMS
MOVEABLE BARRIER FOR CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS
Barrier Systems, Inc. (BSI) was founded over 25 years ago with a singular vision: creating a moveable concrete barrier. The system uses 1-meter long steel-reinforced barriers that are pinned together to form a continuous wall, and a Barrier Transfer Machine (BTM) lifts the barriers by a modified “T” top and moves the wall one or more lanes to reconfigure the roadway to respond to peak traffic needs. For construction applications, moveable barrier is typically used for inside and outside shoulder work, and for traffic shifts where one side of the road is completely closed for construction and all traffic is shifted over to the other side.
Moveable barrier gives contractors the flexibility to expand the work zone during off-peak traffic hours to create extra haul lanes and bring in larger, more efficient equipment. The lanes can then be returned to traffic during peak hours. This flexibility helps to accelerate the construction process and save substantial construction costs and time-related overhead. Productivity increases are typically seen for excavation, grading, MOT, paving, and structures work. Moveable barrier is particularly useful in A+B bidding where the accelerated contract schedule helps meet time obligations.
Because moveable barrier can return lanes to motorists during peak traffic periods, it an excellent option when agencies are requiring a certain number of lanes to remain open. By using moveable barrier to create contraflow lanes during traffic switches, contractors can satisfy the lane mandates using fewer lanes than temporary concrete barrier (TCB). Because it is not possible to reconfigure TCB on a daily basis, a contractor needs a total of six lanes to keep three lanes open in the peak direction at all times using traditional methods. With the flexibility of moveable barrier, the contractor needs only four or five lanes to meet the same traffic requirements, leaving more room for a larger work zone to increase efficiency and accelerate construction.
Examples of contractor savings and increased efficiency using moveable barrier include:
St. Croix River Bridge, Hudson, WI
- Redecking project finished in one season instead of two.
- Over $1 million in construction savings.
- Over $1.5 million in user delay savings for the agency.
- Moveable barrier combined with an aggressive concrete placement and work schedule reduced the construction schedule from 8 months to 6 weeks.
- Construction savings of more than $6 million (25% of the original estimate).
- Contractor finished 81 days early and earned the AGC “Build America” award.
ABSORB 350®
The ABSORB 350 system is a non-redirective, gating crash cushion. The system can be attached to the end of moveable, temporary, or permanent concrete barrier without the need to anchor the system to the roadway surface. At 2-feet wide and only 32-inches high, it is ideally suited for narrow areas where road and work space is limited.
- Easy to install, maintain, and relocate.
- Requires no foundation or anchoring.
- Easy clean-up reduces worker exposure.
- Narrow profile is ideal for permanent or temporary sites.
- Treat more sites with fewer dollars.
The TAU-II system is designed for hazard widths up to 2.6 meters (8.5 feet) and for capacities from Test Level 1 (50 km/h, 30 mph) to over Test Level 3 (100 km/h, 62 mph). The system is fully redirective and non-gating, and it is ideally suited for hazards such as the ends of rigid barriers, tollbooths, gore points, utility poles, and more.
- Highly reusable system elements.
- Low lifecycle costs.
- High-impact survivability.
- Low and high speed applications.
- Easy to install and maintain.
U-MAD TMAs offer outstanding performance, excellent lifecycle costs and quick, simple refurbishment. U-MAD is available in various sizes for work zones with speed capacities from 45 to 62 mph (70 km/h to 100 km/h) to supply a wide range of protection for workers, motorists, and equipment. The TMAs are designed to absorb collision energy during rear-end impacts, prevent impacting vehicles from underriding the truck and reducing expensive damage to equipment. The system offers many flexible options in lifts, mounting systems, hydraulics, and controllers to make installation, use, and maintenance as simple as possible. ■

DEXTER + CHANEY
THE NEXT WAVE: Technology and the Future of Construction Software
by John Chaney
Over the past 3 decades, I’ve seen two major waves of change shift the technology landscape for contractors. The first was the advent of personal computing—the second was the emergence of mobile computing and communication. A third wave is headed to shore and it’s shaping up to be a big one. Web-based computing is coming, and it holds great promise for contractors who take advantage of it.
You can’t easily see a very big wave in deep water as it makes its way to shore. But when it gets there and breaks, you can do one of two things: run from it or ride it. A wave of Web-based computing is about to break, and those who choose to ride it will benefit in several ways.
SOFTWARE THAT IS EASY TO USE
Today, software users are used to Google searches, Web access to their bank accounts, social networking on Facebook, and shopping on Amazon.com. These allow users to move quickly with single click choices and easy to understand options. The user just opens a browser and the software is ready. This is the technology that will operate the future. So why is your construction software so much harder to use?
INFORMATION WHEN AND WHERE YOU NEED IT
You can check the weather, send an email, buy a piece of furniture, or make a dinner reservation from your phone, an iPad, a friend’s computer, a laptop, or even your office workstation. You can do it 24/7 and you can do it in the office, on a jobsite, from a car, at the airport, or in the middle of a park. Why should your construction software only be available on a PC running the right version of Windows using special software that must be installed by someone in your IT department?
TECHNOLOGY THAT COSTS LESS TO OWN AND OPERATE
People are concerned about the increasing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of their software. This includes the initial purchase, servers, updates to workstations, network updates, support, new software versions, the overhead from the IT department, and the time wasted keeping all of this working together. To make matters worse, running outdated software over the Internet requires additional outlays for third-party software licenses and maintenance, additional servers, and more work by your IT staff. Why can’t it just cost less to make it all work?
DEXTER + CHANEY IS BRINGING YOU THE FUTURE
At Dexter + Chaney we have been busy preparing for the next wave in technology. We develop software using the newest Web-based technologies that deliver ease-of-use, access, and affordability like never before. When we ring in 2012, Dexter + Chaney will bring you Spectrum Version 14. I invite you to be among the first to see how Version 14 will revolutionize the way construction companies use business software. Let’s ride the wave.

EFFICIENCY PRODUCTION, INC.
Innovative Accessories for Slide Rail and Trench Sheilding
America’s leading manufacturer of trench shielding and shoring is proud to unveil two new innovations for their Universal Slide Rail Shoring System: a new Ground Quick-Release™ Shackle that eliminates the dangerous and cumbersome task of manually removing shackles from the top of Slide Rail posts with a ladder after they are installed, and new adjustable Barrier Posts and Guard Rail that provide fall protection for open excavations shored with Slide Rail.
Efficiency’s Universal Slide Rail is a component shoring system comprised of steel panels (similar to trench shield sidewalls) and vertical steel posts. The versatile system can be used in a variety of configurations, such as small 4-sided pits, large unobstructed working pits as big as 50 by 50 feet with Efficiency’s ClearSpan™ System, or in a linear Multi-Bay configuration to install length of pipe over 40 feet.
In the process of installing Slide Rail, the shackle connecting the top of the post to the chains or cables must be manually removed. This is normally done by climbing on a ladder to reach the top of the post. The innovative new Ground Quick-Release Shackle has a spring loaded pin that when pulled by a connecting rope, retracts and frees the shackle from the post.
Efficiency’s new Barrier Posts and Guard Rail are made primarily for excavations shored with Slide Rail, but the Posts’ are adjustable and can be used on trench shield sidewalls ranging from 3 to 8 inches in size. The posts have a telescoping guard rail that is a one-size-fits-all solution for all lengths of Slide Rail panels and trench shields. Slide Rail shored excavations typically remain open for extended periods of time and the new Barrier Posts are an easy, OSHA-compliant fall protection device.

KOMPLET NORTH AMERICA
In the United States, big business has always required big machinery. For most, the idea that “bigger is better” has driven the buying and selling of super-sized, fuel-guzzling monsters. In Europe, however, space has always been more limited, and resources more expensive, leading European contractors to seek out smaller, sleeker, more manageable machinery for their construction needs.
Since 1993, Komplet has been serving the needs of the European market, and is currently the largest mini crusher manufacturer in the world. Family owned and operated, the company takes tremendous pride in every aspect of its business. The company continues to produce and market a complete line of quality products, built on integrity, to service industries worldwide.
LEMTRACK 48-25
In September 2007, we purchased our first crusher, the LemTrack 48-25, for our own personal use in our hometown construction company. No one was looking to start a revolution; we were just trying to get the most for our money and our limited space. Industry passersby saw our mini crusher in operation and were immediately amazed by its capabilities. The casual questions turned into real inquiries in ownership and resulted in the sale of six LemTrack 48-25’s.
Following the sale of those first six machines, Komplet headquarters asked us to come to the Con-Expo show in Las Vegas, held in March 2008, and meet with them to help market their machinery to the American industry. The reception of the equipment was astounding, and we sold another four machines while in Vegas. The success of the Con-Expo showing prompted the formation of Komplet North America. In the tradition of true American business integrity, the company was founded on a handshake and a $25,000 deposit for our own demonstration equipment. Since 2008, we have established 14 dealerships in the United States and Canada, and to date there are approximately 60 independently owned and operated crushers currently in this region.
TRUE “GREEN MACHINES”
In these difficult economic times, the Komplet line of machines are highly sought after because they offer true value to the customers. True “green machines,” our products allow our uses to recycle and reuse their concrete media on site. The compact and efficient machine allows the operator to break up, crush, and reinstall the stone on the premises. With no dumping, carting, or purchasing of crushed stone, man hours are saved, and jobsite productivity is increased. Time is not the only value of our machines, but money, as well, cutting production and purchasing costs.
The LemTrack 48-25 mini crusher can crush up to 15 tons per hour. The machine allows you to adjust the size of the aggregate, from 3/8” minus to 37/8” minus, quickly and easily. The LemTrack 48-25 can run all day on 5 to 7 gallons of diesel fuel and weighs only 7,400 pounds, allowing it to be towed to and from the worksite by a common half-ton pickup. The LemTrack 60-40 mini crusher can crush up to 60 tons per hour, and with the jaw adjustment, you can size the material from ¾” minus to 37/8” minus. It uses approximately 23 to 27 gallons of diesel fuel per day and weighs only 24,000 pounds and can be towed on a tag along. Both machines offer the ease of portability that the big machines cannot compete with.
In addition to the ease of operation and various jobsite applications, the maintenance of our product line makes it the choice in the mini crusher market. Replacement parts for all machines are available at any parts dealer. Our crushers are powered by a high-quality Isuzu motor and are operated by the easy-to-use Autec remote control. Yes, that’s right, our products are remote controlled. We utilize top-quality raw materials and manufacturing standards to produce a high-quality fleet of hardworking machines that require little downtime. These days you can’t afford to have a machine that isn’t ready to work when you are.
At Komplet, we stand behind our product and offer the customer service that only a true, homegrown company can. Don’t believe us? We will be happy to put you in touch with one of our current customers. Let them tell you how satisfied they are. Try getting that type of quality assurance from our competition. Our motto is simple: “We tell you what we are going to do, and then we do it.”
For more information, visit www.KompletNorthAmerica.com, or visit www.Komplet.it, and find out for yourself what our current users already know.
Remember: If you are not using our equipment, we are both losing money.
Come visit us at booth number C6879 at World of Concrete 2012, January 23-27, in Las Vegas, Nevada.■

PRO-TECH MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTION, INC.
A History of Proven Value
Pro-Tech was founded in 1991 as a local welding and fabrication shop. It was determined that regardless of what service or product Pro-Tech offered, as long as it was delivered with the highest level of quality and service at a fair price, the company would be a success. With this vision and values, Pro-Tech became a leader of welding and fabrication in the Rochester, New York, area.
In 1994, Pro-Tech designed a containment plow of the highest quality, calling it the Sno Pusher. By 1996, the product line expanded to 18 different models. In 1998, Pro-Tech continued to grow, selling units through 115 dealers. In 1999, Pro-Tech began to aggressively invest in sales and marketing with the development of a full-service dealer program.
In 2000, the company continued to invest in a national marketing effort, building a sales organization and dealer programs. During this time, Pro-Tech began to project product adoption rates in its markets estimated at 3,000 to 5,000 units over the next 2 years. During this period, multiple competitors entered the market, with many infringing on Pro-Tech’s patents.
In 2003, Pro-Tech determined that to maintain its leadership position with a high level of competition, the company would have to dominate in balancing the three critical areas of price, quality, and availability. These efforts paid off and provided Pro-Tech 15-percent growth.
From 2003 through 2008, Pro-Tech focused on its core competency of manufacturing and marketing to optimize price, quality, and availability for market share gains. During this period, Pro-Tech also added two new product categories to add an additional 45 products to its product mix.
In 2008, Pro-Tech continued to build its brand and rely on its core competencies, while doubling its sales staff and becoming more savvy in its marketing and brand-building efforts—growing sales 44 percent in 2008.
In 2011, Pro-Tech continues to grow its current business, while seeking out additional product introductions to leverage its brand.
Pro-Tech’s purpose is to be of value. Pro-Tech’s purpose can best be described as:
“The products and services we provide will bring value, pride, and satisfaction to our customers and employees by being better than the rest, more than they expected, and exactly what they needed.”
- Mike Weagley, founder and owner
This purpose improves the quality of life to our employees, customers, industry, markets, and community.
Why Use a Sno Pusher?
You can get the job done faster. A Sno Pusher can expand snow removal volume by as much as 500 percent over conventional blades or buckets. This is accomplished by trapping large amounts of snow inside of the Sno Pusher and moving it off the property. Conventional snow plows or windrows, move snow to the left or to the right (still on the property). When using just a bucket, the capacity of the bucket becomes the limiting factor. Bucket capacities range in general from 1 to 4 yards. Sno Pushers push 5 to 38 yards of snow (depending on equipment horsepower and weight) in one push.
Other benefits:
- Fewer operators required.
- Fewer equipment hours required.
- Fewer machines to maintain and set up prior to season.
- Per-push-profit is increased.
- A Sno Pusher is priced well below traditional plows and snow attachments.
- It’s easy to use; attach and go within 5 minutes.
What PRO-TECH’S CUSTOMERS Are Saying:
“We did a lot of research and for the value and the effectiveness of moving snow. We felt that Pro-Tech pushers really made our operations really efficient and that much more productive. They have allowed us to become profitable because they have allowed us to gain efficiencies in our operations.”
- Fritz Frasier, Winter Services, Inc.
“Pro-Tech is low maintenance. I’ve had similar pushers that have needed to be painted, but I’ve had my Pro-Tech for 4 years and haven’t had to paint it. There is very little rust, and the rubber cutting edge has held up better compared to any other pushers I’ve used.”
- Jerry Horning, J. Horning Excavating
“Pro-Tech has been the innovator in the industry. They have taken the snow pushing concept to a level of engineering that surpasses the rest. There are a lot of imitators, but there’s only one originator—that’s Pro-Tech.”
- Kyle Stevens, Stonewood and Waters ■
TEREX® BIDWELL
NEW FACILITY, NEW ERA
Terex Bid-Well kicked off its 50th Anniversary in the concrete paving business with a big investment in Canton, South Dakota. In April, the manufacturer broke ground on a new 80,000-square-foot facility to build its market-leading bridge, highway, airport, and canal pavers and related equipment.
Housing all operations under one roof, the new 8-acre site is located just miles from the company’s current multi-facility downtown campus. “We have a dedicated team with a 50-year knowledge base for building a product that requires customization to meet customer needs, so it made sense to retain the skilled workforce,” says George Ellis, president of Terex Construction.
Strong growth and demand for the paving equipment forced Terex Bid-Well to grow into a campus of nine separate buildings. The new $4.8 million facility promises to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce equipment lead time. “Consolidating into one facility will allow us to maximize productivity of our talented team and reduce order-to-finished-goods time to about 5 working days,” comments Rob Drew, site director for Terex Bid-Well.
REVOLUTIONIZING THE INDUSTRY
In 1961, Terex Bid-Well was formed with a revolutionary new concept for paving bridges. Innovators of transverse bridge deck paving, Terex Bid-Well built a paver that featured an oscillating strike-off pan riding along a 48-inch-deep truss frame. This new concept increased paving widths at the time to 60 feet and opened a new era of efficiency and quality.
Over the years, bridge design and deck paving have evolved and so too has the design of Terex Bid-Well pavers to meet the ever-changing needs of contractors. Terex Bid-Well has introduced a number of innovations to make the bridge contractor’s job easier.
Topping this list, the patented Rota-Vibe™ system delivers up to 5,000 vpm to reconsolidate the top 2.5 inches of concrete to deliver a denser and more uniformly consolidated concrete surface. This reduces the chance for chemical penetration through the surface down to the rebar, increasing bridge deck life.
Other design advancements pioneered by Terex Bid-Well include:
- A 5-inch hydraulic carriage lift, raising the paving unit to quickly pass over obstacles and then automatically reset to established grade.
- Swing leg design that offsets the machine for zero-clearance paving.
- Pivot leg option, which sets the legs to a true vertical position when paving superelevations.
- A fogging system with nozzles that atomize the water to create a true, light fog, reducing ambient air temperature that adversely affects concrete curing times.
- Hydraulic crown adjustment that enables contractors to make quick crown changes.
- Skew bar kit that offsets the paving carriage when the machine is paving at a skew angle of up to 55 degrees.
Meeting customer demand has led to two other bridge paver designs, the Terex® Bid-Well 2450 and Terex® Bid-Well 3600. Offering 60-foot and 90-foot maximum paving widths respectively, the 2450 and 3600 pavers offer many of the same industry-leading features as the 4800 with designs built specifically for applications requiring smaller pavers.
MORE THAN BRIDGES
Beyond bridges, Terex Bid-Well pavers are at work globally paving highway, airport, and canal projects. Featuring heavy-duty frames that offer paving widths reaching 68 feet , the Terex® Bid-Well 5000 and Terex® Bid-Well 6500 pavers are specifically designed for high performance concrete paving on projects ranging from highways to airport runways, taxiways, and aprons.
Their innovative dual vibration system quickly consolidates pavements up to 24-inches thick, delivering a high-quality finish. Capable of making width changes in a matter of hours, they more efficiently and economically pave these applications than slipform pavers. For these reasons, the pavers have been used on more than 100 airport projects worldwide.
Terex Bid-Well also offers a number of canal and ditch paver designs capable of paving full-width, half-width trapezoidal canals and straight side slopes up to 45-degree angles. These pavers boast the same sturdy and flexible truss frame construction and many of the same time-saving features as the bridge and highway pavers.
In 2012, Terex Bid-Well begins its next 50 years in a single manufacturing and operations facility, elevating the production efficiency for its pavers and supporting equipment like work bridges and texture/curing machines. This translates into a whole new level of responsiveness in meeting customer equipment needs. ■
BAIR PRODUCTS
After-market CAT/ASV/Terex Compact Loader Undercarriage Parts
Patented “LARRY LUGS” BOLT-ON DRIVE LUGS. Don’t throw away your track due to missing drive lugs. Larry Lugs are heavy duty lugs that bolt onto the track in place of rubber lugs that have broken, worn, or delaminated off the track, extending its life. These revolutionary lugs will outlive the track itself. Ten minutes to install in the field or shop without removing the track. Larry Lugs can replace all the original lugs on a track. When the life of the track is finished, remove the Larry Lugs and reinstalled on different tracks.
FRONT/REAR IDLER & BOGIE WHEELS. Heavy Duty aluminum alloy wheels made to withstand daily use of your multi-terrain loader in several different terrains with little or no wear on the wheel itself compared to the original plastic/rubber wheels. Wheels will wear evenly over time where rubber/plastic wheels wear out on the inner/outer sides taking the look of a bicycle tire and wearing a groove into the track. Bair Product’s alloy wheels will not have “chunks or will be split” like the rubber OEM Wheels. Some wheels come with Grease fittings into the wheel to help keep bearings lubricated at all times saving the operator down time from having to stop work and repack bearings as often.
SPROCKET INNER & OUTER SLEEVE TUBES. The friction of the metal inner/outer OEM sprocket sleeves wear both parts out quickly causing the consumer to keep replacing both parts. Bair’s Outer Sleeve tube is a non-metal tube that is “naturally slippery” against the inner metal sleeve and will not wear out the inner sleeve, saving money and repair time also adding additional life to both parts.
BAIR CLAWS - ICE/SNOW TRACTION ENHANCERS. Stop spinning your tracks/wheels. These little carbide cuties are prefect for ice or hard packed snow. Each “claw” is removable and reusable as needed. Simply install as many as the operator requires for the terrain the machine is in. These can be installed on a variety of machines: skid loaders, ATVs, tractors, rubber tracked type machines, track snow blowers, UTVs.
TRACK TENSIONERS. Stop adjusting jack screws with wrenches and torches. Bair Product’s grease-gun operated, hydraulic track tensioner. Ready to install in minutes with no modifications. After installation, tension is adjusted by using a grease gun that keeps the cylinder tight.
REBUILDABLE/REPLACEMENT AXLES. For CAT267/277/287 ASV/Terex RC/PT100, RC85 & More. Grease-filled, not oil-filled. Greaseable and rebuildable. Idler axle has 2-Double Stack Bearings, a total of 4qty bearings. Complete axle, ready to install sold with or without wheels. Compatible with rubber OEM wheels or Bair’s Alloy wheels.

CAMOPLAST SOLIDEAL
CUT YOUR OPERATING COSTS FOR SKID STEER AND TRACK LOADER
Skid steer and track loaders are used under a variety of conditions. Their productivity is often directly linked to the tires or rubber tracks on which they run. Sharp turns, heavy loads, and ground conditions can cut hours off tire or track life. However, you can optimize productivity and minimize excessive wear by selecting the right tires or tracks for the application, and by following proper operating procedures and preventive maintenance practices.
A general rule of thumb states: “Investing in quality saves money.” There’s no magic to saving when it comes to tires and rubber tracks. The longer they last and more reliable they perform, the lower the operating cost. Down time and replacement costs represent around 20 percent of the overall operating cost of the machine and are among the largest sources of lost revenue. Therefore, durability should always be what you look for in a tire or rubber track.
ALL TIRES AND RUBBER TRACKS ARE NOT ALIKE
Tires and rubber tracks may all look the same, but they’re not. Their construction, plus the amount and type of rubber compound they contain, make the difference in performance. Heavy-duty products are the best value for general applications.
Matching the right tread design to the application will optimize performance and improve life. Side-wall thickness and width are also key indicators of a tire’s durability. There are tires specifically designed for dirt, rock, asphalt, or other conditions. The Solideal Hauler SKZ is a perfect example of a tire that is well suited for both on- and off-road applications due to its heavy-duty construction, super wide wall, and unique non-directional tread pattern. This tire is a prime choice for a rental fleet due to the variety of applications the tire services.
For tracks, a thicker carcass and treads are external indicators of durability. But, key internal elements, like the alignment of the steel cables or the quality of the iron cores supporting the rolling path, are big factors in track life. More difficult to evaluate, the warranty offered by the manufacturer is also a good indicator of track quality, reliability, and durability. Usually, low-end tracks are supported by a 6-month prorated warranty. Sometimes, the importer will add an additional 6-month limited warranty. A heavy-duty rubber track should come with a 15- to 18-month warranty. The new Camoplast HXD for track loaders offers you unbeatable durability and reliability, with an 18-month warranty.
Lastly, good maintenance practices and driving behavior can also increase the life of tires and rubber tracks and reduce your overall operating costs. ■
CHANCE CIVIL CONSTRUCTION
Backed by over 100 years of engineering experience, Hubbell is the world’s leading manufacturer of the CHANCE® brand anchoring foundation system.
HOW IT WORKS
The Helical Pulldown® Micropile (HPM) is used to form a grout column around the shaft of a standard helical anchor/pile. The installation process can employ grout or grout in combination with either steel or PVC casing.
To begin the process, a helical anchor/pile is placed into the soil by applying torque to the shaft. The helical shape of the bearing plates creates a significant force that keeps the foundation advancing into the soil. After the Lead Section with the helical plates penetrates the soil, a Lead Displacement Plate and Extension are placed onto the shaft. Resuming torque on the assembly advances the helical plates and pulls the displacement plate downward, forcing soil outward to create a cylindrical void around the shaft. From a reservoir at the surface, a flowable grout immediately fills this void surrounding the shaft. Additional extensions and displacement plates are added until the helical bearing plates reach the minimum depth required or competent load-bearing soil. This displacement pile system does not require removing spoils from the site.

CHEMSTATION
Since 1984, we have supplied custom-blended, environmentally friendly industrial cleaning process chemicals to a wide variety of markets.
ChemStation’s approach, “Our System is Your Solution,” explains that it’s not just the soap, it’s the system. Customized products are blended at local manufacturing centers around the country and then delivered to refillable containers that have been placed at the customer’s site. This eliminates the costs for ordering, receiving, storing, handling, freight costs, container deposits, and disposal costs.
Our long-standing commitment to REFILL…NOT LANDFILL® defines our stance on eliminating a form of environmental waste, namely the 55-gallon drums that are typically used to deliver industrial soap and then discarded into landfills.
We monitor the tanks to learn the usage pattern of each customer and to deliver more product before the customer runs out. When appropriate, ChemStation’s Tank Telemetry (using cell phone technology) is installed to provide remote inventory monitoring and reporting for tank levels.
You won’t find any “one-size-fits-all” solutions on our shelves. We independently analyze each customer’s needs and formulate the right mixture of soap, which goes into the ChemStation tank on the customer’s premises. Our team of chemists (with more than 120 years of experience in the chemical industry) identifies the formula necessary to solve the problem, run appropriate tests, and apply a final product number. Bottom line: The customer doesn’t have to settle for average, traditional offerings. They receive a unique product, specially designed for their needs.
In addition to our standard line of environmentally friendly products, we also offer cleaning solutions that carry the EPA’s Design for the Environment seal of approval and an optional line of environmentally preferred GreenSystem® biodegradable products.
Customers save even more with our proportioning hardware, which is installed on the refillable containers. That means no more product lost to improper dilutions.
From a handful of employees at a single location in 1984 delivering a few thousand gallons a month, we have grown to 400-plus employees in 55 manufacturing centers across the United States, delivering a million gallons of customized product every month.
Whether you’re cleaning floors in a warehouse, eliminating odor at a landfill, spraying soap on vehicles, cleaning parts, foam-cleaning equipment in a food processing plant, spray washing eggs, or applying asphalt release in the bed of a truck, we’re on your side … KEEPING IT CLEAN. ■

DIAMOND BLADE WAREHOUSE
LARGEST WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTOR OF DIAMOND TOOLS IN NORTH AMERICA
Twenty-five years ago, Diamond Blade Warehouse (DBW) came to the market, completely changing the way diamond tools were bought and sold in the construction industry. DBW’s philosophy of selling a high-quality product at competitive wholesale pricing direct to the end user has never changed from inception. It is not about selling a diamond blade at the lowest price, it is about providing a diamond blade at the greatest value to the contractor. This has been the main reason DBW continues to grow in a tumultuous economy. Our experience in the field and first-hand knowledge is fundamental to choosing the right diamond blade for the application you are cutting, and most importantly, the aggregate, as that greatly affects the performance and value of a diamond blade.
What makes our product line so unique is that we distribute for more than 20 different manufacturers. This is the key to our success, as we pick and choose the best that each manufacturer has to offer for every application and every aggregate. The combination of all these varied diamond blades is put together to create the largest product line in the diamond tool industry. So no matter where you are working or what you are cutting, DBW has the right blade for you.
With more than 30,000 active customers, we understand what the contractor needs to be competitive, and we are constantly striving to develop new products to lower the cost per cut. Within the construction industry, there are many other companies that sell diamond blades, but there are not many companies that have the quality of customer service. Since our customers are all over the world, our customer service has to be better than the local guy. We have expanded our customer base into Canada, South America, all throughout Europe, Asia, and most recently, Australia.
In the last 10 years, we have launched two other companies to penetrate other sectors of the marketplace. Helix Professional Tools quickly has become one of the most respected companies servicing the granite and stone fabrication market. We have partnered with Toolgal to develop Diamond Chain International (DCI) to manufacture a diamond chain that has twice the segments and a higher-grade diamond segment than our sole competitor, ICS. For the first time in the diamond chain market, a contractor is not forced to buy from a monopoly, and DCI is exploding into the marketplace. ■

POSEIDON BARGE
Mid-America Foundation Supply d/b/a Poseidon Barge Corporation has been floating construction equipment since 1995. Donnie Fain, president and owner of Poseidon Barge started in the piling industry in 1979. In 1986, Donnie opened Mid-America Foundation Supply as a distributor for Nucor-Yamato Steel in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Mid-America (MAFCO) sells steel piling products to the heavy highway, marine and bridge construction industry. Our customers approached us in the early 90’s suggesting we sell sectional/pontoon barges for their pile driving projects.
Since that time, Poseidon Barge has expanded its product lines to include a number different pontoon connection styles giving customers another source to purchase or rent barges. Poseidon does this by fabricating a connection system that is compatible with our competitors. We offer both 5-foot and 7-foot-tall barges.
Donnie Fain explaines, “We build a better barge, that will last longer (coating/zincs) and you can haul two (40’ x 10’ x 5’barges) to a truck, (and offer a) higher deck loading.”
In 2010, Poseidon Barge introduced the Poseidon 2 barges to its product line. The Poseidon 2 pontoons are Flexifloat® compatible. All of our pontoons boast a 20,000 pounds per square foot point load capacity top deck (patent pending), a sealed hatch, zinc anodes on the exterior, and are coated with bio-float on the interior for corrosion control.
At Con-Expo in Las Vegas, Poseidon introduced the Sea Bee Barge propulsion unit. This unit mounts to the sides of the barge using the same connection systems. 110 hp Diesel Power Pack for singles and 225 hp for twin, forward, and reverse, and 180° steering and hydraulic lift cylinders to raise and lower the thruster out of the water without additional equipment support.
Poseidon Barge has distribution points centrally located throughout the US in Indiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, California, Hawaii, and Washington State. Additionally, we have always been able to haul two 40’ x 10’ x 5’ barges per truck. With many distribution points and hauling two 40’ barges per truck, we can minimize the mobilization costs both too and from your project.
Poseidon has expanded its distribution location to include Indiana, Arkansas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, California, and Washington State. We have also made inroads in the Canadian and Australian markets.

SPIN SCREED
Eleven years ago, Joe Churchill, an experienced concrete contractor, developer, and builder, invented the first light-weight roller screed to serve the needs of his own construction business. He called the roller screed the” Spin Screed” and trademarked the name after becoming convinced that the Spin Screed he had just invented was better than any screed on the market. After 11 years of growth, the Spin Screed can be found on some of the biggest projects in North America and in 15 countries around the world with an annual growth rate of nearly 40 percent.
Big name contractors like Kiewit, Flatiron, TIC, and others, as well as smaller contractors, have discovered the benefits of the Spin Screed and put it to work on their jobs. The Spin Screed is now working on the Port Mann Bridge near Vancouver, Canada, on what will be the widest bridge in the world when completed.
Recently, the Spin Screed was put to work inside of the largest factory building in the world, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner factory floor, because it can produce durable surfaces fast and flat, while remaining light weight and easy to use.
The electric power head used by the Spin Screed has proven to be more durable, reliable, and powerful than gas powered units. Recently, Mike Anderson with G M Sipes Construction placed 682 yards of concrete in 1 day using the Spin Screed on a massive interstate highway patching project. Mike states that the Spin Screed is “hands down” the best screed on the market today. On this interstate highway patching project, the Spin Screed is keeping the inspectors happy by producing a durable and flat patch. The business owner is happy because the Spin Screed has a tremendous record of productivity even with new crewmembers from the locals who have never used the Spin Screed before. Mike states that he can train someone to use the Spin Screed in “1 minute.” The construction company employees also love the Spin Screed because it is “easy on the body.”
Joe Churchill has also developed a grading attachment for the Spin Screed, a gutter builder, a barrier curb builder, and other custom attachments to make the Spin Screed an even more versatile and valuable tool. If you have an interesting challenge to pour, Joe wants you to bring your problem to him. He likes nothing more than a challenge.
At the 2012 World of Concrete, Joe will be introducing a new screed support system that is economical to use and has an added benefit: The void left by the removal of the screed support system is less than 1/6 the size of the void left by the standard screed pipe support system. The void left by this new screed support system is so small that it can be filled by simply passing a bull float over the void area. This new system will be called the Float Fill Screed Support System. Watch for it at the World of Concrete 2012 and meet Joe. Visit the Spin Screed Web site for videos and info at www.spinscreed.com. ■
WORKSAFE USA, INC.
Dump-Lok® Dump Truck Bed Safety Device System
WorkSafe USA, Inc., based in Springfield, Illinois, has been supplying the Dump-Lok® dump truck bed safety device system since 2008. Its unique and patented design (U.S. Patent 6905174) is the only one of its kind to be offered to the heavy duty truck repair industry. They currently have available three sizes of Dump-Loks which can cover a broad spectrum of dump trucks and trailers.
The DL-105WT is the most popular size and fits up to a 47/16” truck frame. The pivoting wide top (WT) will fit up to a 5½” dump box frame. Also available is the pivoting flat top (FT) that has no side flanges and was primarily designed for offset frame dump trailers. The (FT) flat top can be used in more applications than the (WT) wide top making it a truly universal fit. The DL-106WT Dump-Lok will fit large truck and roll-off frames up to 6-inches wide. The DL-109FT Dump-Lok is the newest model and is specifically designed for large haul trucks used in the mining and quarry industries. WorkSafe USA will be happy to discuss your application needs and available solutions. For more information, call 217.553.0963 or visit www.dump-lok.com. ■
4-SAFETY TRAINING
4-Safety Training’s unique, fun approach to training comes from years of experience on the job and in training classes. We have been in boring classes where the trainer gives a better lesson on how to induce insomnia rather than how to be safe on the job. Then we’ve watched employees from those ineffective, training classes try to implement on the job what they failed to learn in the training program. We saw the “disconnect” between trainer and student, so we began creating training tools and programs that are effective and memorable. Our students actually retain and implement the safety principles they need on the job.
4-Safety Training understands each company and application is different. We write our training classes for your specific application. We use hands-on, interactive tools we create ourselves that allow students of our training programs to practice what they learn in class, safely. Our live, interactive, and impacting classes are your best bet to ensure your employees remember and understand the safety methods for your specific application. The training tools we create, use, and sell include 1/3-scale scaffolding, PPE kits, Power Line Kits, Excavation kits, and many more.
If you need quality training, or you need to spice up your training program with interactive safety products, look no further than 4-Safety Training. ■
CARNIE CAP
The Carnie Cap impalement protection system allows you to use only two or three rebar caps per each 8-foot section, and holds 2x4 lumber in place above the protruding rebar for excellent impalement protection. The system works well because at impact, the rebar is absorbed directly into the lumber rather than deflected off to the side where impalement can still occur.
This innovative product was invented by a safety director nicknamed “Carnie,” working for a large construction company. Visiting jobsites to perform safety audits, Carnie continually received complaints from project supervisors about the standard rebar caps; Carnie and several project managers came up with a different solution; they hit on the idea to create something to hold the lumber suspended above the rebar, and knew they were onto something workable.
Carnie Caps are biodegradable. Still having its recognizable yellow color, the products are now considered “green” and will begin to biodegrade in the landfill, taking up to 5 years to completely break down. There is not a change in the intrinsic viscosity of the Carnie Caps; the products are still reuseable up to 2 years in the field.
The only rebar cap still made in the USA! ■
CHEM-PRO MFG. COMPANY, INC.
PREMIUM PROTECTION OF RUBBER NOW AVAILABLE FOR CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT
Age-Master #1® from Chem-Pro Manufacturing Co., Inc., has protected military, industrial, aviation, and space equipment from “dry rot” since 1969. This protection against cracking and loss of strength and flexibility is now available for construction equipment.
When painted on tires, tracks, hoses, belts, bushings, or any rubber part, it dries in minutes and leaves no slick or oily residue. And the strength and traction properties of rubber are maintained.
Put science to work for you. Rubber “dry rot” deterioration is caused by oxygen and ozone in the environment. Age-Master #1® works by adding a chemical barrier to rubber which reacts with oxygen and ozone before rubber molecules can be damaged. This protection is especially important for equipment exposed to hot, sunny outdoor environments.
Benefits include:
- Longer service life for lower replacement costs.
- Reduced repair downtime.
- Improved readiness of equipment activated from storage.

Using industry knowledge and years of experience, we will work with you to create a strategic plan to optimize your business results by:
- Taking advantage of often overlooked tax savings opportunities.
- Planning for long-term contract tax regulations.
- Minimizing taxes without destroying the working capital required for bonding.
- Providing timely and quality audit and review reporting that increases credibility with bonding agents, surety writers and bankers.

FLARETITE
NEW “LEAK-FREE” CONNECTIONS WITH FLARETITE SEALS
Flaretite’s new flared seals fit all standard flared fittings, 30, 37, and 45 degrees. These seals make any flared fitting permanently leak-free, and still allow serviceability should the fitting require re-opening. Flaretite Seals are metal stampings coated with a dry-to-the-touch Loctite sealant. Simply clip the seal onto the nose of the flare, where it is held in place with three locking tabs to prevent accidental loss during assembly. The fitting is then tightened to its recommended torque.
Flaretite Seals are rated from –65 to +1,200 degrees F. They are compatible with all common Hydraulic fluids, compressed air, most gases, process fluids, and steam. 304, 316 stainless steel, and copper seals are available for all special applications.
Advantages of the seals are:
- Permanent leak-free connections that remain serviceable.
- Lower cost than alternative o-ring fittings.
- Ease of installation, just clip them on and assemble.
- World-wide acceptance and availability.
- Fits to all brands of flared fittings, no special tools required.
- Compatible with most industrial fluids and gases.
FROST FIGHTER
Frost Fighter is one of the first “indirect” fired heaters in the North American market with CSA certification dating back to 1965. It has proven to be the most reliable, safe, and effective heater for many applications including concrete curing, industrial painting, equipment preheating, pest control, restoration, pipe line, oil exploration, and tent heating.
Unlike a direct fired heater, an indirect fired (or vented) heater contains a heat exchanger, which allows the fumes and products of combustion to be vented through a flue stack. The heat exchanger provides a barrier from an open flame, making it safer than other units, and allows for duct attachments.
Frost Fighter manufacturer’s direct and indirect fired heaters range from 200,000 BTU up to 1.5 million BTU. You can contact us 888.792.0374 or visit www.frost-fighter.com.
We look forward to providing a heating solution for your application. ■
